Labosport and DFGE Join Forces to Support Sustainability in the Synthetic Turf Industry
Berlin, April 4, 2025, Labosport and DFGE – Institute for Energy, Ecology and Economy – two partner companies from the CERTANIA network, have joined forces to support the European Synthetic Turf Council (ESTC). Together, they are leading the implementation of the EU’s Product Environmental Footprint (PEF) methodology—setting a new benchmark for environmental responsibility in synthetic turf.
At CERTANIA, we are committed to contributing to humanity’s most urgent challenges—health and sustainability. The collaboration between Labosport and DFGE is a prime example of how our partner network drives progress through shared expertise and impactful solutions.
Driving Sector-Wide Sustainability
The PEF is a European Commission initiative that enables a more holistic understanding of environmental impacts across product life cycles. By adopting this framework, the synthetic turf industry is taking a forward-thinking step toward transparency, accountability, and long-term environmental performance.
Labosport, an industry leader in sport surface testing and certification, is spearheading stakeholder engagement through its close partnership with ESTC. DFGE complements this with deep scientific rigor—offering environmental data analysis, life cycle assessments (LCA), and sustainability reporting.
Strategic Support at the ESTC Congress
The strategic collaboration was formally introduced at the ESTC Congress 2025 under the theme "Designing a Greener Future." The event brought together industry experts, innovators, and regulatory stakeholders to chart the course toward a more sustainable synthetic turf ecosystem.
“Sustainability is now central to the future of synthetic turf,” said David James, CEO of Labosport. “This collaboration enables us to provide ESTC members with robust and practical guidance as they navigate new regulatory landscapes and consumer expectations.”
“We are proud to support the ESTC and its members in embedding sustainability at the core of their operations,” added Dr.-Ing. Thomas Fleissner, Founder & Managing Director of DFGE. “By applying sound scientific methodologies and data-driven tools, we help ensure transparency and credibility in the industry’s sustainability journey.”
A Model for Cross-Company Impact
This joint initiative underscores the power of collaboration within CERTANIA—where shared values and specialized know-how drive innovation.
